Lower Jaw, Mandible Tightness

The lower jawbone, or mandible, carries a lot of responsibility with chewing which can cases headaches, jaw pain AND it is also one of the many attachment sites for the platysma muscle.

The platysma muscle can tighten and thicken as we age and cause “banding” of the muscle itself and the surrounding tissue which can restrict head mobility causing increase tension in the neck.

Gently stretching the muscle attachment sites not only aids in releasing muscle tension, but also fascial restrictions.

Once released, we can see an improvement in head and neck mobility as well as postural neck alignment, reducing pain and compensation patterns.
